This three acre former market gardenning field was converted to grazing pasture and has been slightly grazed by sheep resulting in a fertile, dense, tussocky sward with patches of nettles. There is ittle floristic diversity, being mostly dominated by Cock's-foot and False Oat grasses. The sites location adjacent to Mill Bank Meadows and close to Gore Meadow and Mike's Meadow makes it an ideal location for an enhancement scheme. We will reduce fertility and introduce typical meadow wildflowers such as Knapweed and Ladies Bedstraw which in turn will attract meadow butterflies and other insects. Mowing will be carried out more regularly and grazing will be increased to improve the grass sward. This site is very much a work in progress and it will be interesting to see how this field develops over the coming years.
